Change A Heart welcomes women and men who are committed to experiencing service, simplicity, spirituality, and community in the Franciscan tradition. A Change A Heart service year can be challenging and tiring at times, but it is also rewarding and fulfilling. While there is no typical member background, each individual brings a unique story, experience, and history to the program. Interested individuals of all work experiences, educational backgrounds, ethnicities, and residential locations encouraged to apply.
Individuals between ages 21 and 30 who are honest, communicative, flexible, open to growth, and willing to build bridges between people who are different from themselves are encouraged to apply. While the majority of members may be people of faith, this is not a requirement for program participation.
Members serve for one year. The program begins in mid-August with a week-long orientation and ends the following July.
We are an intentionally small program with limited space. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Preference is given to those who apply by June 1 for an August start. All applications are reviewed at the times they are submitted, and interviews are arranged accordingly.
The application process includes registering online, uploading your resume and goal statement, submitting your transcript and 3 references, an interview with program staff, and complete paperwork. Applicants are also invited and encouraged to "come and see" current members (optional). Applicants will be notified of their acceptance within 48 hours of their interview.
Once an applicant is accepted, interviews will be arranged with 1-3 nonprofit agencies.
Our online application process requires that you create an account with a username and password. If you have not created an account, please register.
